The aim of the hackathon is to generate creative solutions that solve real problems for clients, or for our people, and for teams to work together to bring them to life.
Over 1,800 people were invited to take part and a whopping 347 ideas were submitted and taken forward as possibilities by 161 teams who developed, coded and built them as far as possible over 24 hours. The entire process culminated in a judging ceremony with the winning ideas from each region going forward to find a global winner, yet to be announced.
Hackathon is not only a test of creativity, but also one of endurance and stamina and what every successful hackathon needs is pizza – 259 pizzas were delivered to IRESS offices worldwide in that 24 hours.
Commenting on the success of the hackathon, IRESS' Chief Technology Officer Andrew Todd, said
"We set out to make this the best ever IRESS Global Hackathon and from what I experienced we achieved our goal – a display of team work, innovation and creativity using our knowledge and technological capability to streamline a process and create a better experience.
Lots of elements go into the hackathon to make it a success - an extraordinary amount of skill, determination and endurance and also a lot of pizza."
